Picking Your Performance
There are four main performance variations to consider for the 2021 Ford Escape, which come from three engines:
- 1.5L 3-cylinder
- 2.0L 4-cylinder
- 2.5L hybrid (comes in hybrid and plug-in hybrid variation)
The smallest is the 1.5L 3-cylinder, yet it still delivers plenty of oomph, thanks to 181 horsepower and 190 lb-ft of torque. As you might expect, the larger 2.0L offering creates more power, reaching 250 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque.
Lastly, the hybrid offering is always hovering at 165 horsepower. There are two versions of the engine however, with fuel economy for the base version checking in at an EPA-estimated 44 city/37 highway MPG.
Other options to consider from there include the drivetrain (either front-wheel drive or Intelligent All-Wheel Drive) and the transmission, which can be an 8-speed automatic or an electronically controlled continuously variable option.
Roomy Interior
Ford has always understood what the mission of the Ford Escape is supposed to be: a reliable, versatile SUV for any lifestyle.
To achieve this goal, interior space has always been a real strength of the model. First, here's how the cargo capacities measure with the rear seats standing upright and folded flat:
- 37.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row
- 65.4 cubic feet of cargo space behind the first row
Total passenger volume always measures at a spacious 104 cubic feet. From there, some other note-worthy measurements include the headroom (40 inches up front and 39.3 inches in back), plus the legroom (42.4 inches up front and 40.7 inches in the rear).
