The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning is an entirely electric truck. You've got a standard-range battery or extended-range battery that works with two motors. Both batteries sport 775 lb-ft of torque. However, the standard-range battery has 426 horsepower, while the extended-range battery offers 563 horsepower.

Both batteries have impressive fuel economy ratings since the truck only uses electricity and no gas. The standard-range battery has an EPA-estimated 230-mile range per full charge, while the extended-range battery has an EPA-estimated 300-mile range.

The 2022 Ford Maverick offers two engines: one hybrid and one fuel-efficient gas engine. The standard 2.5L full hybrid produces 191 horsepower and 155 lb-ft of torque. You've even got an EPA-estimated 40 city MPG to work with.

The available 2.0L EcoBoost® engine offers 250 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque for a bit more power.

In addition to these engines, the Maverick has five drive modes to choose from:

  • Tow/Haul
  • Slippery
  • Eco
  • Sport

Towing and Payload Capabilities

Both the 2022 Maverick and 2022 F-150 Lightning are capable of towing.

The F-150 Lightning has a maximum towing capacity of 10,000 pounds with an extended-range battery and when properly equipped. With this much towing capacity, you can hitch things like:

  • Boats
  • Midsize campers
  • Horse trailers

If you're looking to fill up your truck bed, the F-150 Lightning has a maximum payload capacity of 2,000 pounds with the standard-range battery.

The Maverick's maximum towing capacity comes to 4,000 pounds when properly equipped. The maximum payload capacity is not far behind the F-150 Lightning, with a total of 1,500 pounds. The multi-position tailgate that comes with the Maverick is a great option for helping you load up your truck bed.


F-150 Lightning vs Ford Maverick: Technology Features

Both the Maverick and F-150 Lightning have plenty of tech that makes the driving and towing experience even easier.

For entertainment and information while you drive, both vehicles have infotainment systems. The F-150 Lightning has a standard 12-inch screen, while the Maverick sports an 8-inch one.

Both infotainment systems offer:

  • In-vehicle navigation

The Maverick can also come equipped with 110V outlets in the truck bed and cab, so you can plug things in no matter where you are.

To help you hook your trailer up more easily, the F-150 Lightning has an available Pro Trailer Hitch Assist feature. It controls the steering, throttle, and braking to help you align the hitch ball and trailer coupler.
