The Ford Fusion is an efficient and reliable vehicle, and if you're a proud owner, you'll want to know about the vehicle's dashboard lights. Knowing what these lights mean will be of great use to you if one comes on while you're out on the road. At Richmond Ford West, we're going to help our friends in the Glen Allen, Ashland, and Short Pump areas who drive the Ford Fusion by informing them of the different dashboard lights in their vehicle.

In this article, we'll explain the difference between indicator lights and warning lights. We'll also explain what these lights mean, and the actions that you should take when they appear while you're out driving. This is your Ford Fusion dashboard light guide.

Indicator Lights vs Warning Lights

Differentiating between indicator lights and warning lights is extremely important because they couldn't be more different, and you don't want to worry for no reason. Indicator lights are simple reminders and notifications. They activate when you turn a system on, or when a system comes on automatically.

Warning lights, however, are something to worry about. If these ominous lights come on, the important thing to remember is not to panic. A system is malfunctioning, so you'll need to take precautions to prevent further damage to your vehicle.

Ford Fusion Indicator Lights

  • Cruise Control: When you activate your cruise control system, this light will appear and remain on until you turn the system off.
  • Front Airbag: This light generally appears when you start your vehicle. If it remains on, flashes, or doesn't come on at all, have the system checked at Richmond Ford West.
  • High Beam: If you engage your high beams, this light will appear to remind you that they're on.
  • Stability Control: If this light appears on the dashboard, it means that your vehicle experienced a slight loss of traction, and the system will help your wheels re-grip the road. If this light fails to turn on during ignition, or it doesn't turn off, have the system checked.

Ford Fusion Warning Lights

  • Battery: When this light appears, it means that your battery is malfunctioning. You should turn off all the unnecessary electrical equipment and pull over to safety. Contact us immediately to check the system.
  • Brake System: This light indicates that either your parking brake is still engaged, or your brake fluid level is low. If it's the latter, have the brake system checked immediately.
  • Engine Coolant Temperature: If this light comes on, you should immediately pull over and turn the engine off. Let it cool before starting again. If this light continues to appear, don't hesitate to call us.
  • Engine Oil: When this light comes on while you're driving, you should pull over right away and check the oil level. If the oil level is correct, have Richmond Ford West check the system.
  • Low Tire Pressure Warning: Your Tire Pressure Monitoring System will notify you with this dashboard light when it detects a drop in your tire pressure. If possible, pull into a gas station to correct the affected tire.
