Ford Explorer Cargo Dimensions & Space

The 2021 Ford Explorer offers a spacious cabin equipped with 152.7 cubic feet for the seven passengers over three rows of seating. These seats can be adjusted easily as you attempt to make room for cargo and other supplies, too. Further versatility is offered with the optional second-row 35/30/35 split-fold-flat bench seat, which is both comfortable and handy.

  • The Ford Explorer offers 18.2 cubic feet of cargo space when every row is upright and in place.
  • When the third row is folded down, the Ford Explorer cargo space expands to 47.9 cubic feet.
  • The Ford Explorer offers 87.8 cubic feet of cargo space when both the second and third rows are folded flat, but it drops the passenger seating to two.

Cargo Space Enables Great Towing Capacity

You've just learned how the Explorer cargo dimensions and space can be expanded when you fold down the rear seats; however, it limits your passenger capacity. If you've got a lot of materials to bring on your trip, and you need all the seating upright for your passengers, you can easily bring cargo along by towing it.

The Explorer features a range of engine selections that offers an impressive performance and the ability to tow boats, ATVs, trailers, and more.

  • The base-level 2.3L 4-cylinder engine produces 300 horsepower, 310 lb-ft of torque, and can be had in rear-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive. In either configuration, the maximum towing reaches 5,300 pounds.
  • The available 3.0L V6 engine produces 365 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque on the Platinum trim but jumps to 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque on the ST trim. The maximum towing capacity is a hefty 5,600 pounds either way!
  • The 3.3L Hybrid option generates 318 horsepower, 322 lb-ft of torque, and can still tow as much as 5,000 pounds!
