In a press release from earlier today, Ford announced it would be further increasing the number of vehicles equipped with its innovative Auto Start-Stop feature. The technology, which shuts off the engine when the vehicle comes to a stop, is already available in the Focus 1.0-liter EcoBoost, the Fusion 1.5-liter EcoBoost, the Edge 2.0-liter EcoBoost, and the Escape 1.5-liter EcoBoost. For the 2017 model year, Ford will make Auto Start-Stop available throughout the entire EcoBoost lineup of F-150 trucks.
“EcoBoost already powers F-150’s best-in-class towing,” said Doug Scott, Ford truck group marketing manager. “Now, with every EcoBoost-equipped F-150 mildly electrified with standard Auto Start-Stop technology, customers’ fuel efficiency is expected to improve as well.”
Shutting down the engine while stopped helps decrease fuel consumption and carbon emissions caused by idling. When the brake is released, the engine quickly restarts. The feature is disabled when four-wheel-drive or towing modes are engaged.
Actual fuel savings vary, depending on individual driving habits.
