Earlier today, Ford Motor Company issued a press release announcing that it is donating a customized Ford Transit van to help The Salvation Army in its response to emergencies in Southeast Michigan. The van will be put to use in a disaster response unit as part of the Eastern Michigan Division Emergency Disaster Services’ canteen fleet.
The Transit van's sleek design allows for better maneuverability in tight situations that often arise in emergency response scenarios. The tall roof allows for a person to stand upright inside, and the 487 cubic feet of cargo room houses a custom installed stovetop, microwave, coffeemaker, refrigerator, sink, and electric hot water heater. Furthermore, food can be served through the custom window with fold-out stainless steel shelf. At full capacity, the can serve 250 disaster victims and first response personnel.
“Assisting with disaster relief is an important part of our mission to serve the communities where we live and work,” said Janet Lawson, director, Ford Motor Company Fund, the philanthropic arm of Ford. “The flexibility of the Ford Transit van makes it a great fit for The Salvation Army’s emergency response fleet.”
