2017 Ford F-150: Newer and Stronger Equipment

Perhaps the Ford F-150's most exciting update is the introduction of its all-new, second-generation 3.5-liter EcoBoost® twin-turbo V6, which builds on the success of the 2.7-liter EcoBoost and first-generation 3.5-liter EcoBoost® available on the 2016 model. Its cylinder dimensions are largely similar to the outgoing 3.5 liter, but a few subtle engineering tweaks have resulted in significant improvements to its performance. 

According to a press release issued by Ford, the EcoBoost® produces more torque than every diesel- and gasoline- powered competitor, including V8s that yield almost twice the displacement. The EcoBoost® ups its predecessor's torque by 50 lb-ft to a class-leading 470 lb-ft, delivering stout capabilities worth taking a second look at. The EcoBoost® sees horsepower jump by 10 horsepower to 375 and produces better low-end and peak engine performance for hauling hefty payloads and towing heavy equipment.

The 2017 Ford F-150's 3.5-liter EcoBoost® will pair exclusively with the first volume-production 10-speed automatic transmission offered to car shoppers from any automaker. Together, the F-150's new powertrain is projected to improve acceleration and performance compared to its six-speed automatic transmission.
