Ford F-150 vs Chevy Silverado 1500: Engine Specifications

The sheer number of engine options offered by the Ford F-150 makes this model a favorite for truck lovers who want to customize their performance. However, it's this trait mixed with the top-end power that really gives Ford the edge over the Chevy Silverado 1500.

With six different selections available-including a hybrid option that's the first of its kind in the full-size truck segment-the Ford F-150 provides ample choices. This hybrid motor is plenty strong, too, offering 430 horsepower and 570 lb-ft of torque.

If you want to go in another direction, you can get the juiced-up 3.5L EcoBoost® V6 that generates a whopping 400 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque.

The Chevy Silverado 1500, on the other hand, sports an available 6.2L V8, which is its strongest option. This engine, though, can only muster 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque.

So, the Ford F-150 wins this section, thanks to the following engines:

  • 3.5L PowerBoostâ„¢ Full Hybrid V6 that produces 430 horsepower and 570 lb-ft of torque.
  • 3.5L EcoBoost® V6 that produces 400 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque.

Maximum Towing Capacity & Payload

Capability is a staple that any great truck must offer. The Ford F-150 once again gets the edge in this category over the Chevy Silverado 1500, thanks to some impressive statistics.

First up is towing capacity, and the Ford F-150 boasts a maximum rating of 14,000 pounds when properly equipped. Its impressive towing capabilities coupled with its 3,325-pound maximum payload capacity will give you the chance to tackle any task.

Once again, the Chevy Silverado 1500 lags behind in both categories. For example, the maximum towing capacity is just 13,300 pounds, while the maximum payload is a meager 2,280 pounds.

With that, the Ford F-150 again gets the win, thanks to specifications like:

  • 14,000 pounds of maximum towing capacity
  • 3,325 pounds of maximum payload

Driver-Assisting Features

Safety and ease of use are two priorities found in both the Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Silverado 1500. Despite its best efforts, though, Chevy hasn't yet been able to endow the Silverado with the same intuitiveness as the F-150.

The best example of this gap in abilities is the Active Park Assist 2.0 system. When you have this system optioned into your F-150, the truck can virtually park itself. All you have to do is line up the truck with either a perpendicular or parallel spot, shift into neutral, and then hold down the Active Park Assist button. While holding the button, the truck automatically nestles its way into place!

Chevrolet, while continuing to add to the driver-assisting abilities, hasn't developed anything to compete with Active Park Assist 2.0 from Ford.

2021 Ford F-150 vs 2021 Chevy Silverado: Who Comes Out on Top?

The 2021 Ford F-150 distinguishes itself as the premier truck in this head-to-head debate, thanks to superior performance, capability, and convenience.
