When considering a new vehicle, safety is no doubt at the top of your list. Everyone wants to know that the car they drive and their families will ride in will keep them safe should the unexpected happen.
Richmond Ford West understands how important safety is, and that's why we have put together this 2021 Ford Edge Safety review. We hope our neighbors in Glen Allen, Ashland, and Rockville find this review helpful.
Ford Edge Safety Systems
When it comes to safety systems, the Ford Edge has plenty. There are, of course, seat belts to keep everyone safe in the vehicle should an accident happen. The Edge also has plenty of airbags, including:
- Side impact airbags.
- A front- and rear-row safety canopy.
- Driver's knee airbag.
In addition to child anchors, airbags, and seat belts, the Edge also has a Tire Pressure Monitoring System. This system lets you know if you need additional air in your tires, not enough air can affect your ability to drive safely and fuel economy.
Ford Edge Safety and Driver-Assist Features
The Ford Edge has plenty of tech to help keep you and your passengers safe. Many of the features fall under the Ford Co-Pilot360™ suite. Five standard features are part of this suite, including BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert) and Auto High-Beam Headlamps.
This suite also comes with:
- Lane-Keeping System-This system is for the highway and monitors your position within your lane. If you begin to drift unintentionally, your Edge will warn you and help you back into the center of your lane.
- Pre-Collision System with Emergency Braking-This feature monitors the distance between you and the vehicle ahead of you in case of a potential frontal collision. If a collision is imminent, the system will warn you and then apply the brakes when needed.
- Rear View Camera-Use the camera to see obstacles or vehicles directly behind you. You can use this feature to back out of driveways or nail those parallel parking spots.
2021 Ford Edge Safety Ratings
Many vehicles on the market today are put through various tests to determine just how safe they are. To give you an idea of how the 2021 Ford Edge will hold up in crashes, check out these safety ratings.
The NHTSA (National Highway Transportation Safety Administration) puts together three different types of crash tests to test vehicles on the market:
- Frontal crashes
- Side crashes
- Rollover situations
These tests receive an overall score out of five stars which goes towards a total overall vehicle crash score also out of five stars. The 2021 Ford Edge did exceptionally well, receiving a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating.
Another organization, the IIHS (Insurance Institute of Highway Safety), does its own crash tests, including crashworthiness and crash avoidance/mitigation. The 2021 Ford Edge was also tested in these areas and earned the 2021 TOP SAFETY PICK award.
