2017 Ford F-550: Designed to Finish Any Job
For the 2017 model year, every truck in Ford's Super Duty line will sport an aluminum-intensive body structure. The all-new Ford F-550's cab and bed will wear the same military-grade aluminum alloy armor as the light-duty F-150, strengthening its performance and taking its capabilities to new heights.
By using an aluminum body, the Ford F-550 sheds 350 pounds and enhances its core frame. The Super Duty series skeleton is now 25 times stronger than former models, improving its gross combined weight rating (GCWR). The upper echelon of commercial Ford Super Duties-350, 450, and 550-used to hold a 35,000-pound GCWR. With its new structure, the 2017 F-50 enters the 40,000-pound weight class.
- The F-550 sheds weight and increases strength with its aluminum alloy body structure.
- Ford's top-level Super Duty, the F-550, leaps to the 40,000-pound weight class.
Engines Powering Through Your Daily Grind
The 2017 Ford F-550 is available in three trims: XL, XLT, and Lariat. There are also three cab sizes to choose from: Regular, SuperCab, and Crew Cab. Truckers have two engine choices to power the operation, and each is engineered to help you get the job done: a 6.8-liter Triton® three-valve V10 and the celebrated 6.7-liter Power Stroke® V8 Turbo Diesel.
Ford anticipates that these engines will yield more than 300 horsepower and nearly 700 lb-ft of torque to muscle through your workday. Each is paired to efficient operating systems for smooth, controlled power application to the wheels and Ford's advanced TorquShift® transmission technology. The V8 Power Stroke® is paired to a six-speed automatic transmission, while the V10 gets a heavy-duty five-speed SelectShiftTM automatic.
